The HIV Project receives referrals from various departments of the Hospital, and from General Medical Practitioners in the vicinity, from NGOs, as well as self-referrals.  On any given day there are 15-18 indoor PLHAs in the wards. The Hospital is perhaps the only private hospital in Mumbai, which admits and supports HIV patients with no discrimination or segregation. The Project carries out pre and post-test and follow-up counseling activities.

The Hospital also offers access to facilities to pregnant HIV positive mothers for deliveries. The Mumbai District Aids Control Society has approved the Obstetrics & Gynecology Department as a Center for the Prevention of Parents to Child Transmission program as well as the Voluntary Counseling Center. The Hospital also has a Revised National T.B. Control Program (RNTCP - DOT Center).

The Project has strong outreach activities in the neighborhood slums and has introduced a community home-based care program. The Program covers supplementary nutrition, home visits, psychosocial counseling, yoga and meditation, participation in events and celebrations and income generation opportunities through skill training. The Somaiya HIV Project set up the Positive Community Polytechnic on November 30th 2005. It offers tailoring and has 15 trainees.  Mehendi, paper-bag making, and chalk making are soon to be started.
