Throughout its ventures into diverse fields such as chemicals and commodities
amongst others, the Somaiya Group always looked out for an area where it could contribute to social
development in a nurturing and valued manner. Education was identified as this field. Here, the strong
traditional values of the Somaiya Group could be fused with modern educational techniques, to shape and
guide young minds. This led to the birth of the Somaiya Trust in 1958.
Today, the Somaiya Trust consists of 32 educational institutions, divided into the following categories:
Fully translating the desire of its founding father, K.J.Somaiya, the
Somaiya Trust prepares the Indian youth to face the challenges of a modern world while also being aware and
proud of their culture and heritage. Each educational institution of the Trust imparts higher learning
and trains its students in a career-oriented mould, which is especially seen in the K.J. Somaiya
Institute of Management Studies and Research.
Besides these educational institutions, the Somaiya Trust has a publishing centre,
Somaiya Publications
. It publishes books that encourage scholarships and public education on
Indian culture, as well as issues facing Indian society.
