K.J.Somaiya Medical College and Hospital was established in 1991 as a centre of life Sciences, inspired by the guiding Principles of Bhagavat Geeta ‘to remove the suffering of all beings afflicted by pain.’ This pain in the literary sense is best tackled by the Physiotherapists in a variety of conditions.

As a result, there is a great need for Physiotherapists. Understanding this, Somaiya Medical Trust made an application to the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences to grant affiliation of the course in Physiotherapy with an intake capacity of 30 students. The affiliation was granted from the academic year 2002-2003. The College commenced its Bachelors’programme in the same year.
