General Information about Library

In the library one can enjoy with books, textbooks, maps, periodicals, journals, CD-ROMs, reference books like encyclopedias, dictionaries, biographical books and many other books.

Date of establishment:       1972.

Built up area in Sq. ft.    :  90 ´ 57 ft =  5130 Sq. ft.

                                           30 ´ 27 ft = 810 Sq. ft.

Working Hours:         Monday to Friday -    8.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m.

Saturday -                   8.00 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.

Library has a collection of nearly books 35,396. Nearly 1200 to 1600 books are purchased and processed every year in the library.

General Rules and Regulation

To run an organization successfully & efficiently certain principles are required. These rules & regulation are serve as a guide to the reader are also instrumental in acquiring the readers as to kind of service which the library is capable of providing to them.

 

All the students are hereby informed that the following rules are to be observed in the library strictly.

Ø      All persons using the Library are subject to the discipline of the College.

Ø      The students or staff members sitting in library should sit in disciplined manner. Do not sit in obscene posture in the library.

Ø      Library has separate sitting arrangement for boys and girls and no student should overrule this arrangement in any manner. The boys and girl students should occupy respective seats reserved for them in the reading room and keep strict silence.

Ø      No entry inside the counter without prior permission of the counter staff.

Ø      The books issued for home reading from library must be returned on due date put up on date slip behind the book. If the same book is required again for the next week, then student must renew the book on the due date itself.

Ø      If the book is not returned in time, the student is required to pay fine as per the college rules.

Ø       If any student lost a library book should meet the Librarian immediately, before taking any further action against the student.

Ø       Handle the books carefully and do not mutilate them in any way. No book may be written in, defaced or damaged. No user, when writing, may place writing paper on any book belonging to the Library, or make any mark in the book, or do anything that might cause damage to any such book.

Ø      If any student fails to return the books even after sending reminder, a very strict action will be taken against that student.

Ø      The library  reading  room furniture  should  be used in  proper  manner. Do not write   or stick anything on the tables or chairs or any furniture. No person may misuse furniture, fittings, notices or equipment, nor deface them or any other College property.

Ø      Students should maintain discipline while sitting in the reading room & should not make noise or talk among each other in the library. No discussion is allowed in the library reading room. Mobile telephones must be switched off whilst in the Library and must not use noisy calculators. In order to avoid disturbance to other users, quiet and good order must be maintained in the Library at all times. Talking or discussion of any kind is not allowed in library reading room. The library reading room is only for the self-study. Standing in the reading room area for any purpose is not allowed.

Ø      Taking snacks, lunch etc. in the reading room is prohibited. Eating in the library reading room is not allowed. Students are not allowed to eat in the library. Library staff may ask users to remove food and drink from the Library at any time.

Ø      The reference books are not allowed to take out of the library for any purpose. Keep the belongings aside and carry only a pen and a notebook inside the reference counter.

Ø      Books are the wealth & library is pride of our college. Students should not torn the pages or should not mark or write on the books or periodicals. They should return the books in proper condition and in time. The students, who do not follow the rules, remain on the black list of the library and the library does not like to give any kind of services to such students.

Ø      The students can give recommendations for the books for their study purposes, any time during the academic year to the Librarian. If the books recommended by students are available in Library, then the information about those books will be put up on the notice board. If the book is not available in Library then we will try to purchase that book if the funds are available for that subject, and the Head of the Department of that subject permits so.

Ø      The notice board should be read regularly, as the information about various courses and book lists are displayed on the board. Library also has material on vocational courses.

Ø      The Internet facility is available in Library strictly for educational purpose from 11.00pm to 4.00pm.

Ø      All the students are required to strictly adhered to the above rules and cooperate with the library staff for smooth functioning of the library. The Librarian has authority to maintain order in the Library and may at his/her discretion either exclude from the use of the Library for a period of up to six weeks or recommends other appropriate action against any user who knowingly or persistently breaks any Library regulation.

Ø      Library books and personal items left unattended at user places for long periods may be removed by Library staff.

Periodicals Section

The current issues of the periodicals are available from periodical section for reading in the library. Back issues are bounded & kept in this section only and can be made available if required.

Home Issue Section for students

For home issue facility the student must get their Home Issue Reader's Ticket according to the dates on the notice at the beginning of the year. Nobody will get the card after those dates.


For Home Issue Reader's Ticket students are required to bring their Identity Card, Fee Receipt and Identity Size Photograph.

 

The textbooks of all subjects are issued immediately on Home issue card. Reference books, rare books, costly books, Journals, Bound volumes of journals are not issued. The books other than this will be issued on the next day after filling the demand slip.

 

One book issued per card.

 

Books are issued for a period of 7 days. The student can retain the book if there is no demand for the book.


Students are required to return the book issued to them on the given date or reissue it, failure to this will be fined RS.2/- per day.

Reference Section

All the reference books like dictionaries (general & subject), encyclopedias, handbooks, statistical handbooks, biographical dictionaries, directories, general knowledge books, costly books etc. are available in this section. These books, marked "R" before class number, are to be referred inside the reference counter only and are not for home issuing. The referral service is also provided to the student i.e. in case the required material is not available in the library then the students are recommended to the other libraries for reference work. Inter Library Loan Facility is also available to the students & staff within the campus libraries.

 

All students & staff members should handle these books very carefully as they are costly and are required by everybody.

Current Reading Section

At the current reading counter the textbooks, general books, periodicals, question papers are provided for current reading only; against the Identity Card.

At a time a student can get one book/periodical against the Identity Card.

Whenever required by student the book can be issued for overnight only if three or more copies of the same book are available at the counter.

It is necessary to take the Librarian's permission for borrowing books for overnight.

The student must return the overnight book the very next day and in time as below-


Senior College - before 9.00 a.m.

Junior College - before 12.00 p.m.


If the book is not returned in time the student will be fined Rs. 10/- per day.

Reference Books marked "R" before class number, rare old books & costly books will strictly not to be issued for home reading.

Question papers will be given out for Xerox.

Free Internet facility is available to students from 11.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.

Scholar's Card

The Scholar’s Card as an extended library facility provided only to Topper students of each class and not applicable for ATKT. The Scholar’s Card is strictly non-transferable and strictly not to be misused by its holder.

The facilities provided to the Scholar’s Card holder are –

Ø      One additional book for home lending.

Ø      Priority for internet access.

Annual Report 2005-06

During the second half of the last academic year 2004-05 and  first half of the current academic year 2005-06 in the senior college approximately 1719 new books worth Rs. 6,46,384/- were added to a previous year collection of 25607 books. Whereas in Junior college approximately 141 new books worth Rs.33, 500/- were added to a previous collection of 6278 books. Thus the library presently houses a total of 31885 books, including 759 bound volumes of periodical journals.

The studious students (Toppers) are extended the facility of additional Home-Issue cards to encourage their studies.

From last academic year we have instituted a “Best library User Award” which will be given to each from teaching & non-teaching staff as well as students for having read more number of books other than text books and for having made optimum use of the library during the year.

We have started “Inter library loan” facility for staff and students among all libraries in the campus. For this the users are required to fill up the application form available in library, Moreover, our teaching staff can use B.N.H.S. (Bombay Natural History Society) and B.C.L. (British Council Library) Library. Out of the six library cards of BCL five cards may be used for borrowing the books & one for non-book material i.e. audio, video, cassettes, C.D. etc.

Students and teachers are using computer facility such as “Internet” and retrieving information regarding their research, seminars, workshops, projects work etc.

From last academic year we have started displaying the monthly “New Arrival” list of books, “Thought of the Week”, “Book Review” (published in newspaper).

The Library Committee meeting has been held once during the second term. The committee has given many good suggestions which will be implemented in the near future.

Annual Report 2006-07

During the first half of the current academic year, 2006-07, approximately 306 new books worth Rs.2,44,802/- were purchased for the Senior College & approximately 684 books worth Rs.41,476/- were added to the Junior College. Thus the library presently houses a total of 36,008/- books including 1050 bound volumes of Periodicals/ Journals.

The toppers thirteen in number from each faculty were extended the facility of additional Home-Issue cards to encourage in their studies.

From the last two academic years, we have instituted the “Best Library user Award”, which is given out for having read maximum number of books other than text books and for having made optimum use of the library during the year. The award is given under three categories viz., students, non-teaching staff, and teaching staff.

The Library Advisory Committee meeting was held during the first term. The committee put forward many good suggestions, which will be implemented in the near future.
