"Self financing Career Oriented Courses" was recently introduced by the University of Mumbai, under UGC scheme of Career Oriented -ADD ON Courses to be taken by a student concurrently with the ongoing degree programme. These "ADD ON" courses provide the necessary skills to enable the student to enter the workforce after graduation.

K.J.Somaiya College of Science and Commerce through the Centre For Remote Sensing & GIS, Department of Geology, offers the Certificate and Diploma courses under this programme, These courses have the approval of the University of Mumbai.
