Word From Principal
Principal Dr.Rajpal S.
Hande (M.Sc. M.Sc.,
D.H.E. Ph.D. F.A.Z., F.Z.S.I.) The
year 1960 witnessed a great event of laying the foundation
stone for the K .J. Somaiya College of Arts and Science under the
auspices of
the Somaiya Vidyavihar Trust. The year 1972 saw the emergence of the K.
J. Somaiya
College of Science as an independent institution. The Commerce faculty
was
added in the year 1986. K. J. Somaiya College of Science and Commerce
has been
awarded an "A" grade in 2004 by National Accreditation And Assessment Council, an autonomous body of
University
Grants Commission, Government of India. To keep pace with the
latest trends in higher education and industry the college has started
new
courses such as B.Sc.(I.T.) , B.Sc.
(Biotechnology), M.
Sc.(I.T.) and B.C.A.F. (Accounts and Finance). Besides
responding to the needs of Modern Science and Technology our college
also tries
to expose the students to the values of our culture. The
college provides opportunities to develop the overall
personality of the students and thus try to achieve the motto of the
college –Dnyanadeva
Tu Kaivalyam
(knowledge
leads to sublimity). The
college is a centre for post-graduate program and research. There
are nineteen recognized research guides in various subjects. The
college has
one of the largest intake capacity for the
post graduate
students in different subjects among the affiliated colleges of the The
college has been short listed for the Award of Best College of
the The
Academic Audit Committee comprising external experts
complemented the principal for the innovative program received by UGC
i.e. P.G.
Diploma in Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System. The
committee also
mentioned the funding received from bodies like the UGC, NAAC and the
University for conducting Seminars and for carrying out research
projects. With the encouragement
from the management and co-operation of all the staff-members, I am
sure the
college will achieve greater heights.
