Somaiya Vidyavihar
Spread over a 60 acre campus in the heart of Bombay, India, Somaiya Vidyavihar is the educational arm of the Somaiya Trust. While it is essentially made up of 14 humanities institutions, Somaiya Vidyavihar also conducts all other educational institutes that make up the Somaiya Trust. Because of its sheer size, Somaiya Vidyavihar has the unique distinction of being the largest campus in India, founded and supported by a single foundation. The first president of the Somaiya Vidyavihar, the late Chief Justice of India N.H. Bhagwati, summed up its ideals in the following statement: 'The Vidyavihar must strive for an education that will not merely lead to the intellectual development of the individual but will also make his life and personality fuller and richer; it should not merely concentrate on developing intellectual faculties and talent but also satisfying and fulfilling his most important urges: ethical, aesthetic and spiritual; it must in short, strive at imparting education that would develop an integrated personality.'' Somaiya Vidyavihar consists of the institutions listed below. All of them are described in brief, while the K.J. Somaiya College of Arts and Commerce, and the K.J. Somaiya Comprehensive College of Education, Training and Research are described extensively.
K. J. Somaiya Junior College of Science and Commerce K. J. Somaiya College of Science and Commerce Somaiya Science Academy Formed in 1960, the K. J. Somaiya College of Science had a commerce faculty added to it in 1986 making it the K.J. Somaiya College of Science and Commerce. The K.J. Somaiya Junior College of Science and Commerce is a high school for students aspiring to enter graduation programs in science and commerce. Currently, the K.J. Somaiya College of Science and Commerce is a premier educational institution of science in the University of Bombay. Its departments cover a wide spectrum of science subjects such as Microbiology, Electronics, Spectroscopy, Biochemistry and Marine Zoology besides the traditional science subjects. Its graduate programs include Biotechnology and Industrial Chemistry, while its post graduate program has amongst the largest number of seats in the University of Bombay. The College is in collaboration with several Indian institutions, such as the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), National Centre of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), and University Grants Commission (UGC). Its Department of Geology received encomiums from ISRO for its work in the field of Photogeology, Remote sensing and Geomorphology. The College does not confine itself purely to the prescribed subjects. It also conducts job oriented courses, such as Basic Electronics, Management of Environment and Radio Servicing. A science academy of the College, the Somaiya Science College, offers courses to technicians of medical laboratories, and awards a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT).    Smt. Sakarbai K. Somaiya Junior College of Education (Primary Teachers Training College) WORD FROM THE PRINCIPAL:- I am proud to head a prestigious institute like the SOMAIYA D.ED College which is the only of its kind in Maharashtra with its four medium Gujarati, Hindi, Marathi, English. HISTORY OF INDIVIDUAL PROGRAM:- Estd. In July-1962 with the main objectives to help women to become self-dependent by qualifying them to teach in Primary School with P.T.C. Course ( Gujarati & Marathi). In the year 1965 -1967 &1968 Hindi, Marathi and English Medium was introduced respectively.
ELIGIBILITY:- H.S.C. with 50% in Arts, Commerce, Science stream Duration of this course is 2 Years with the intake capacity of 120 students .

Published Articles in Nav Bharat Times ON VARIOUS ISSUES AND educational concerns IN DIFFERENT MAGAZINES. Invited as a Chair Person to Jonnesberg South Africa to Address the World Summit of Sustainable future. 2) Ms. Pallavi Bhatt as Resource Person in Third Language English in various B.M.C. Schools.

like to add that since ours is a Governement aided institute we are not able to
organize many seminars and presentations on a large scale for lack of funds and
financial aid. S. K. Somaiya Balvatika S.K Somaiya Prathamik Shala (Primary School) S.K. Somaiya Vinay Mandir (High School and Junior College) S.K. Somaiya Degree College of Arts and Commerce S.K. Somaiya Junior College of Arts, Commerce and Science The S.K Somaiya Prathamik Shala consisting of primary and secondary schools was established in 1975. Along with it a Balavatika, or kindergarden, was also started. 1975 also saw the birth of the S.K. Somaiya Vinay Mandir Junior College consisting of Arts, Science, Commerce and Vocational Schemes. The S.K. Somaiya Vinay Mandir has several programmes for the study and promotion of works in Sanskrit, such as Subhashitas and the Bhagvad Gita. The study of Sanskrit starts from the primary school level and goes on to the Junior College. The S.K. Somaiya Degree College of Arts and Commerce, and S.K. Somaiya Junior College of Arts, Commerce and Science were started from the academic year 1995-1996. |
