Event Details

Thanks to the overwhelming response we had for the meditation workshops last month, and the numerous requests we received for more such opportunities to study and practice Buddhist meditation, we have invited Father Cyril Mathew to speak about the Zen tradition and its practice. As some of you already know, Zen meditation is a unique form that developed in China and the Indian monk, Bodhidharma, is considered the first Patriarch. The tradition contributed immensely to Chinese culture, including poetry, calligraphy and the martial arts and went on to have a great impact in Japan, Korea and Vietnam.

In India, the Bodhi Zendo was set up by Fr AMA Samy, who travelled to Japan and studied with Yamada Ko-Un Roshi at the Sanbo Kyodan. He received the traditional lineage transmission and permission to teach from Harada Roshi in 1982.  Our speaker for these lectures, Fr Cyril Mathew, is also a Jesuit priest who has trained with Fr AMA Samy since 2000. In 2018, he was authorised to teach by Fr AMA Samy.
