K J Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research (SIMSR) believes in providing world class education to its students, steeped in Indian ethos and value system. The Institute which started in 1981, offers Ph.D. Programme in management and several Post Graduate/Masters programmes in management affiliated to University of Mumbai and/or approved by AICTE.
Students are selected through a rigorous selection process based on the universally accepted tests like CAT /XAT/CMAT for PGDM/PGDM (International Business) / PGDM (Financial Services)/PGDM (Communication) and PGDM (Retail Management) and MH-CET for MMS and pass through a process of Written Communication Test, Group Discussion including extempore presentation, intensive Personal Interview by a team of two panelists. The Institute gives adequate weightage to the Past Academic Record and relevant Work Experience of students.
The batch which is available for placement has students from all parts of India and with varied backgrounds and a fair mix of genders.
Selected students are taken through a two week induction programme, followed by rigorous 3 trimesters in the first year. Students undertake on an average 7-8 subjects in each trimester, covering basics of all management disciplines. The stress is on developing managerial acumen and soft skills. They are exposed to practicals of business through field projects (individual and team based), case studies, guest lectures, which are an important part of the curriculum.
The focus at SIMSR is on developing cross-functional and managerial capabilities that can be leveraged and applied across different segments and sectors of Industry. Located in Mumbai, the business capital of India, SIMSR provides greater student-industry interaction. This results in greater exposure to ongoing changes in the industry and keeps the students attuned to the latest management practices.
Summer internship is mandatory and is an important and integral part of the academic curriculum at SIMSR. It is planned for 8 to 10 weeks, during the months of May and June at the end of the first year.

The Summer Internship provides students ample opportunities to innovate, add to, and challenge ideas and techniques imbibed in the first year of the curriculum. It also assists students to be more receptive to market needs, and to gain insights into their areas of interest and specialization in the second year.
