We were pleased to welcome a distinguished delegation from The University of Western Australia, led by Prof. Amit Chakma, Vice-Chancellor, along with Professor Jennifer Howell, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Global Engagement); Ms Fiona Allan, Chief Advancement Officer, Development and Alumni Relations; and Ms Nashid Chowdhury, Director – Global Growth and Advocacy (Principal Lead India).

The visit culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Somaiya Vidyavihar University and the University of Western Australia to advance opportunities for joint research, student and faculty exchanges, and collaborative academic programmes.

This MoU marks a significant step toward enriching academic and professional opportunities for students of Sport and Exercise Science at Somaiya Sports Academy. The partnership was strengthened through the successful study tour in India (Ranchi, Mumbai and Chennai) undertaken by students and faculty from the University of Western Australia, during which the sport and exercise students of Somaiya Sports Academy actively participated in joint academic sessions, practical demonstrations of indigenous games like Kabaddi, Kho-Kho and Malkhamb, Human performance laboratory visits, and cultural exchange activities.

Through provisions such as student exchange programs and collaborative teaching initiatives, students of the B.Sc and M.Sc (Sport and Exercise Science) programs will gain international exposure to diverse training methodologies, advanced human performance laboratory facilities, and global best practices in sport performance, exercise, and health. The partnership will also open avenues for joint research projects, enabling students to participate in cross-cultural research teams, access broader datasets, and develop global research perspectives.

Through collaborations like these, we continue to expand global learning opportunities while strengthening international academic collaboration at Somaiya Vidyavihar University.
