On 16th September 2025, the Dean Student Welfare (DSW) organised a highly impactful session on Mental Health and Well-being at the Sakarben Auditorium, Engineering College, SVU. The event witnessed an enthusiastic participation of around 250 students, along with faculty members, making it a truly engaging and enriching morning.

The session was led by Ms. Pritha Saha Dutta – Founder of the Indian Mental Health Summit, Change Catalyst at Amor Vitae Foundation, Yes Therapy, M.A. in Counseling Psychology (SNDT University), Advanced Certification in REBT (AEI, New York), and Author of “Go and Kiss A—Live Life on Your Own Terms.”

Ms. Pritha addressed the crucial need to give equal importance to mental health alongside physical health. She highlighted how being aware of one’s mental well-being is essential for leading a balanced life. Through interactive discussions, she introduced the audience to important psychological concepts including:

  • RAS (Reticular Activating System)

  • Sympathetic and Parasympathetic Nervous System

  • Factors related to Stress

  • RAIN Technique (Recognise, Allow, Investigate, Nurture – four steps to mindfulness)

  • Consent and emotional boundaries

In addition to theory, Ms. Pritha engaged students in practical exercises such as box breathing, grounding techniques, and mindfulness practices. These activities helped participants experience first-hand methods to manage stress and improve focus.

The session concluded with an interactive feedback round where students openly shared their learnings and reflections. Many expressed that the session was not only informative but also empowering, as it provided them with practical tools to handle everyday challenges.

Overall, the Mental Health and Well-being Session proved to be enlightening, thought-provoking, and deeply beneficial. The students and faculty extended their gratitude to Ms. Pritha Saha Dutta for her valuable time and guidance, which left a lasting impact on their perspectives towards mental health.
