The Somaiya Debating Society brings you an immersive, hands-on workshop designed to take you beyond simply speaking for or against a motion-and directly into the strategy, logic, and rhetoric of competitive debating.

Whether you are stepping into a debate for the very first time or looking to sharpen your competitive edge, this session will teach you the strategy behind the speech, the logic behind the rebuttal, and the tactical thinking that secures the win. Entry is completely FREE and open to all students!

• Debate Structure: Speaker roles, team dynamics, and speech framing.

• Motion Analysis: Deconstructing motions, defining the debate, and establishing burdens of proof.

• Case Construction: Building rock-solid arguments and delivering high-impact rebuttals.

• Points of Information (POIs): Strategic techniques for offering, taking, and countering interventions.

• The Adjudicator's Perspective: Inside insights on how arguments are weighed and debates are decided.

We are delighted to welcome Athang Shinde, who brings over 9 years of experience in competitive debating and adjudication. Having chaired prestigious Model United Nations conferences across the country-including IIT Bombay and GLCMUN-Athang will share actionable insights on crafting persuasive arguments, defending positions under pressure, and understanding how judges evaluate competing cases.
