Dr. Jaya Iyer is an Associate Professor in the Data Science & Technology area at K J Somaiya Institute of Management, Somaiya Vidyavihar University, Mumbai. She is also the Area Chairperson of the Data Science & Technology area and has significant experience in teaching, curriculum development, academic leadership, and industry-oriented management education.
She holds a Ph.D. from SNDT Women’s University. Her doctoral research focused on the impact of e-Governance in the public utility service sector in India. Her research interests include Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML),, e-Governance, e-Learning, and the application of emerging technologies in business.
Dr. Iyer has extensive teaching experience across MBA, MCA, and executive education programmes. She has taught subjects such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Python Programming, Java and Data Science. She has also contributed to curriculum design and development for various management programmes, with a focus on making technology-related subjects practical, relevant, and easy to understand for management students and working professionals.
Her key areas of expertise include AI for Managers, Generative AI, Machine Learning for Business Decision-Making, AI and ML in Operations, AI in Finance, and Responsible AI and Governance. She designs and delivers management development programmes (MDPs) that help participants understand how AI and Generative AI can be used to solve business problems, improve decision-making, increase operational efficiency, enhance customer experience, and support business growth.
Her teaching approach combines simple explanations of technical concepts with real-world business cases, practical demonstrations, hands-on activities, and discussions on industry applications. She encourages participants to explore AI tools and identify opportunities to apply them in their respective organisations.
Dr. Iyer has played an active role in curriculum revision, industry engagement, and the development of technology-focused courses for management education. Through her teaching, research, and academic leadership, she aims to bridge the gap between technology and business management and help professionals become more confident in using emerging technologies for strategic and operational decision-making.
