Religion has been the great force in the history of mankind. It is a vital social force. Our age is an age of conflict there is individual tension, social instability, political distrust, strife and misery. Today we are living in the age of science and technology. There is tremendous growth of knowledge. It is the era of information revolution. At the same time it is the age of anxiety and mental tension. We are passing through value-crisis. Man has known much about atoms but not about the values needed for meaningful and peaceful life. Nuclearize and terrorism which are the result of narrow outlook have created what is called the culture of violence. We are in the midst of technological explosion, telecommunication, internet; satellite, etc. are making the world a smaller place. Every single day modern life throws up the new challenges before mankind. There is communal disharmony. Today the true scenario is as bleak as it is shining. There is threat to extinction of the living beings. We have conquered nature but lost personal sense of fulfilment. Environmental concerns are serious issues today.
