  • Abstract

An investigation on the effect of changing the evaporator size on cooling by natural convection in refrigerator was carried out. For this purpose of transient analysis of air flow due to natural convection in refrigerators, the analytical model of the refrigerator was developed using FLUENT which was validated with experimental results. The same analysis was repeated with reduced height of the evaporator by 10% and 50%. It was observed that the compressor run time required for the temperature to reach the desired value of 5oC in the refrigerator compartments was not increased when the evaporator height was reduced by 10% but when the height was reduced by 50% there was increase in compressor run time.
