  • Abstract

Flexural cartridge is low stress carrying discs loaded under cyclic stresses. Literatures reviewed indicate that these bearing are used for absorbing shocks and placed on non-rotating shafts. Flexural cartridge used for cushioning the forces acting on the dynamic rotating shaft, is still a research gap. This lacuna is fulfilled by designing flexural cartridge for micro drilling workstation where the spindle shaft is rotating at high speed. Flexural cartridge acts as a linear guide ways, which moves in to and fro direction relieving the impact of reaction force generated during drilling the work specimen. This movement relieves the force acting on the micro drill and prevents it from permanent fracture. This paper rigorously focuses on estimating difference in diameter enlargement and circularity of micro holes drilled by the designed flexural spindle head and standard CNC machine. The difference in diameter enlargement for aluminium, brass, acrylic and mild steel is 44.5 µm?, 59.5 µm?, 5.5 µm? and 92.6 µm?, respectively, whereas the average circularity is 11.1 µm?, 2.2 µm?, 10.2 µm? and 6.4 µm?, respectively.
