  • Abstract

In India almost all educational institutions are based on traditional methods of learning, that is, they follow the traditional set up wherein the students will go to School or College or University daily, sit in their respective classroom and their teachers will teach them using chalk and board method. Although many academic institutes have also started blended learning – a combination of traditional offline and online learning, still a lot of them follows the old procedure. The sudden outbreak of a deadly disease called Covid-19 shook the entire world. To prevent the virus from spreading, the World Health Organization declared it as a pandemic resulted in the sudden closure of schools and colleges for the safety of teachers and students, this has interrupted the teaching plans, challenged the education system across the world and forced educators to shift to an online mode of teaching overnight. This decision of closing educational institutions in India has affected approximately 300 million students. Many academic institutions that were earlier hesitant to change their traditional educational approach had no option available to them but to shift entirely for the online teaching due to which the use of ICT has acquired enormous importance overnight in the field of education. The students have accepted the technology very easily, but for teachers it will be a big challenge especially those who all are with more experience as they have molded themselves so much into traditional offline learning, also to learn various online platforms for teaching at this age is very difficult for them. the paper aims at understanding the willingness, knowledge and approach of teacher’s for online teaching. A survey was conducted on 101 teachers via questionnaire to uncover their perspectives on online teaching.
