  • Abstract

The article explores the impact of WhatsApp groups created by parents to share real-time school information, highlighting how these groups have transformed parent–school communication. While such groups keep parents informed about homework and school activities, they also contribute to excessive involvement that can disrupt parent–child communication and privacy. Parents often share comparisons, discuss children’s performance publicly, and form opinions about teachers based on group chatter. This can lead to negative labeling of students, unfiltered criticism of teachers, and erosion of traditional respect in teacher–student relationships. Moreover, frequent, unmoderated discussions blur professional boundaries, increase pressure on teachers, and foster collective decision-making outside formal channels like PTA meetings. Though parental involvement in education has benefits, the article argues that “helicopter parenting” through social media may harm relationships and suggests schools establish clear communication policies, limit direct contact with teachers, and provide official online platforms for information to mitigate these issues.
