Abstract Rural marketing plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between urban and rural sectors by facilitating the flow of goods and the marketing of products manufactured by non-agricultural workers. Various strategies, such as product, price, promotion, distribution, marketing, and sales, can help organisations capture a significant market share in rural India. However, operating in the rural market presents several challenges, including underdeveloped populations and markets, inadequate media coverage for rural communication, the presence of multiple languages and dialects, traditional values, and limited physical communication facilities. Despite these obstacles, there are solutions to address these problems. Improving infrastructure, transportation, communication, warehousing, and packing facilities can help overcome these challenges. This paper aims to delve into the rural market, its significance, and its current status. The primary objective is to assess the potential of Indian rural markets and identify the challenges faced by rural marketers.
