  • Abstract

Abstract: Animals, birds and non-human lives often find a place in multicultural literature. There are many native traditions in which animals and birds are accorded with wisdom and agency. Literature produced in these cultures such as Native American culture and African American culture treat animals and birds with significant respect and moral consideration. Such literatures often use the perspectives of the non-human ‘others’ to complete a multicultural picture of diversity and plurality. Diaspora literature too represents animals in a healthy way. This paper is an attempt to consider how multicultural literature treats animals and birds as a part of cultural diversity. It examines The Antelope Wife and Life of Pi to show how animals and birds enrich multiculturalism by making its mosaic of lives more inclusive
