Present Day Validation of Smart Contract Security Verification Standard Against Real World Attacks
- Abstract
The SCSVS (Smart Contract Security Verification Standard) is the successor to the widely known SWC (Smart contract Weakness Classification) Registry. Although its version 2.0 had been added in late 2021, with updates even in 2025—There exist extremely few works in literature that utilize the standard. Acknowledging the possibility that the SCSVS may not be up to the mark, this paper validates the standard against real world attacks on DeFi projects performed from 31st October 2024 to 24th February 2025. Twenty-six attacks are studied and the vulnerabilities which led to the attack are consolidated. Finally, the coverage provided by SCSVS v2.0 for the given vulnerabilities was determined. The results show that 17 out of 26 attacks could have been prevented if the SCSVS was enforced as a standard for security of smart contracts. This paper encourages researchers, auditors and developers to include SCSVS v2.0 within their work
