Purpose: The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the viability and reliability of stock market trading as a source of supplementary income for residents in the Mumbai Suburban District. The research aims to understand the motivations of individuals entering the stock market, analyze the effort and time invested in trading activities, and assess the overall profitability and satisfaction derived by these retail investors. Methodology: A quantitative approach was adopted for data collection through a structured questionnaire administered to a sample of traders in the suburban areas of Mumbai. The sample size was determined using convenience sampling. The collected primary data was analyzed using statistical tools such as Descriptive Statistics, Percentage Analysis, and the Likert Scale Analysis to interpret investor behavior and outcomes. Findings: The study provides insights into the demographic profile of retail investors, their preferences between different trading types (Intraday, Positional), and the primary factors influencing their investment decisions (technical analysis, fundamental analysis). The key findings include an assessment of the perceived satisfaction and actual profitability experienced by traders, indicating whether stock trading serves as a consistent and effective form of supplementary income for the target population. Research Limitations: The study's findings are primarily limited by the convenience sampling method used, which may not fully represent the entire population of stock market traders in the Mumbai Suburban District. The scope is restricted to a specific geographical area, limiting the generalizability of the results to other cities or regions. Practical and Social Implications: The findings have practical implications for policymakers and regulatory bodies by highlighting the level of financial literacy and risk tolerance among retail investors.
