We are pleased to extend an invitation to the Dr. K. Sankarnarayan Memorial Lecture, held in conjunction with the Buddha Purnima Celebration, which will take place on 9th and 10th July 2025 at 11:00 AM.

This annual event commemorates the scholarly legacy of Dr. K. Sankarnarayan, the founding director of the K. J. Somaiya Centre for Buddhist Studies, now integrated into the K. J. Somaiya Institute of Dharma Studies following its establishment as a private university.

This year’s memorial lecture, entitled Pāli Mahāvaṃsa  in Different Perspectives  and  Effective Language Teaching Methods for Pāli will be delivered by Dr. Dhammika Jayasinghe, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Sinhala Language at the University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka.

About the Speaker :

Dr. N. A. D. Jayasinghe is a senior lecturer with extensive academic experience spanning over two decades in the fields of linguistics, translation studies, and language pedagogy. He holds a PhD in Linguistics from the University of Kerala, in addition to multiple postgraduate qualifications in Sinhala, Pāli, and Tamil. His multilingual proficiency encompasses Sinhala, Tamil, English, Hindi, Malayalam, Pāli, Prakrit, and Sanskrit.

Dr. Jayasinghe's scholarly work focuses on comparative linguistics, translation theory, and South Asian literary and language traditions. He has published more than 40 academic papers and has presented his research at numerous national and international forums. In addition to his research contributions, he has been actively involved in curriculum development, educational policy advisory roles, and textbook production in Sri Lanka. He is also a life member of several distinguished academic societies, including the Royal Asiatic Society and the Dravidian Linguistic Association.
